Hello there friend, welcome to day 9 of my #12DaysOfBlogmas series! If you haven’t had a chance to check out the rest of the posts of this series I’ve posted then you can read them all here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here.

This post is my winter skincare routine, I have not too long ago posted my My Current Affordable Skincare Routine (Morning and Night) and it hasn’t changed too much but I still wanted to share what I do with my skin during the colder winter months.



In the morning I don’t use cleanser as my I don’t want to over wash my skin especially since it’s not going to need it in the morning. So I just use a toner on a reusable makeup pad and run it all over my face.

Straight after the toner I will add a Vitamin C Serum which helps me with the brightness of my skin and also with some of my blemishes and pigmentation.

Once my serum has sunk in I will add my moisturiser to hydrate my skin, this will lock in my serums and stop my skin getting oily.

Then I will add SPF to make sure that my skin is protected from skin damage, even in winter.

Oil Cleanse:

If I am wearing makeup or my skin feels particularly clogged up then I will do this step in my routine. It really helps to break down makeup and dirt which helps to throughly clean my skin once I’ve rubbed it into my clean skin for 60 seconds I will then add a drop or two of water in my hands and rub that into the oil to help pull it out of my pores. Then I wash it off with a damp washcloth.

This will either be my first step to my nighttime routine if I haven’t been wearing any makeup, if I have done an oil cleanse it will then be my second step. I will massage this cleanser into my skin for 60 seconds and then wash off with a warm wash cloth.

After I have cleansed my skin I will tone, I will add some of this toner onto a reusable makeup pad and rub it over my face. The toner helps remove any dirt or makeup that might still be on the skin and also just helps the other products sink in.

Whilst my skin is still damp from the toner, I will add my hyaluronic serum to my face. I will do it when my face is damp because hyaluronic will pull and hold water but if there is no water already on the skin or in the air it will pull the water from the skin and then end up drying the skin out more. So I always add when it is still damp so that it pulls the water on the skin and then hold it within the skin.

During the night I want to hydrate my skin as much as possible, and so I like to use a hydrating sleeping mask as my moisturiser. Alternatively I will use my day time Moisturiser and a few drops of oil to keep my skin moisturised. This mask sinks into the skin nicely throughout the night and doesn’t feel too thick or greasy in the morning which is nice.

My skin is quite normal and balanced, however it can get quite dehydrated which causes oiliness and break outs in my skin. Some nights a week I like to add a couple of drops of oil onto my skin after I have moisturised, the oil just helps to keep my skin hydrated and helps lock in my skincare products.

This mask is one which helps with brightening and clarifying the skin which is great when I am wearing more makeup in the week or I feel like my skin is pretty dull, that is more apparent during the winter months.

During the winter months and Christmas period, i find myself eating more comfort foods which can have a negative effect on my skin. When I get cheese and carb induced spots I will use this mask because it helps reducing black heads, and clear out my pores to help reduce break outs.

Chemical exfoliate:

Chemical exfoliation is great for deeper exfoliation and also rejuvenating the skin, it helps with brightening and reducing scars and blemishes on the skin. This is something I will do only once a week because I don’t want to over exfoliate my skin and overwhelm it. This is a really affordable option and is great to try out chemical exfoliation.

Physical exfoliate:

Physical exfoliation is also great for the skin as it physically scrubs the skin which helps with any texture or blemishes on the skin. For physical exfoliation I use this one from Dermalogica which they label as a daily exfoliator, I use it because it isn’t too abrasive so it wont damage my skin as much as a much heavier duty scrub could. It is nice to use on a day I’m not using a mask or chemical exfoliator as it keeps my skin turning over and bright during the week.

That was my winter skincare routine for you, this is what is working for my skin at the moment but I am still trying other things too so I will update this in the spring.
